– – – – – GLOBAL MARKETS Asian stocks extended gains on Tuesday as overnight strength on Wall Street and the Federal Reserve's cautious turn underpinned appetite for riskier assets, while the dollar held firm on last week's upbeat U.S. data.

SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS South Africa's rand eased on Monday as a strong dollar and U.S. Treasury yields holding recent gains put pressure on emerging market currencies, while stocks also edged lower.

SOUTH AFRICA MTN GROUP South African telecoms giant MTN said on Monday it expected to see a 20 percent improvement in earnings per share last year compared with 2017. KENYA MARKETS The Kenyan shilling strengthened to its strongest level in six months against the dollar on Monday due to hard currency inflows from horticulture exports and offshore investors buying government debt amid thin oil importer demand, traders said. CHAD SECURITY French warplanes struck a rebel convoy in northern Chad on Sunday, helping local troops repel an incursion across the border from Libya, a sign France's support for President Idriss Deby goes beyond fighting Islamist militants.

ZIMBABWE ECONOMIC CRISIS Zimbabwe's mines minister on Monday said the central bank governor would soon introduce a monetary policy tool to alleviate foreign currency shortages that have affected mining companies. BOTSWANA ECONOMY Botswana's economy is expected to expand at a slower pace in 2019 compared with last year, Finance Minister Kenneth Matambo said on Monday. IVORY COAST COCOA Ivory Coast's cocoa farmers expect an abundant April-to-September mid-crop, they said on Monday, following a week of above-average rainfall in most of the country's cocoa regions
