The funds will be directed towards Riverfront Park, a new urban oasis and gathering place along the Elbow River with reclaimed green space including the addition of 200 trees and 800 new shrubs. The Park will also be the new setting for Indian Village and First Nations programming.

In recognition of this significant contribution, the Calgary Stampede has created Canadian Oil Sands Plaza. The Plaza is next to the newly renovated Agriculture Building in Stampede Park and home to the iconic “By the Banks of the Bow” sculpture. Centrally located, the Plaza is already a popular meeting place for families and visitors alike. As the larger plans evolve, the Plaza will offer a direct sightline and primary route to the planned Riverfront Park, which is expected to attract one million visitors annually.
