CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwired – June 16, 2013) – Having achieved containment of the release, clean-up and remediation efforts are underway as Plains Midstream Canada (Plains) continues to respond to a release on its six-inch, 79 kilometre Kemp pipeline system approximately 90 kilometres north west of Manning, Alberta.

Benefiting from the long daylight hours, more than 60 workers, including staff and local contractors, have been working day and night shifts on site at the pipeline release.

Safety is a top priority during clean-up and remediation activities, and all responders are participating in regular safety briefings conducted on site.

Work crews continue to remove the release fluids from the surface using gator and vacuum trucks.

Plains has conducted a wildlife assessment and have confirmed that no wildlife impacts have been identified. Assessments will continue and mitigation measures will continue to be deployed.

Investigation is progressing and the affected section of the pipeline is being removed to be inspected by a qualified third-party firm. Early indications are that the pipeline experienced external mechanical damage, likely attributed to construction equipment known to have been in the area.

Plains continues to work closely with regulatory agencies to complete a comprehensive site clean-up, restoring the local environment.

Plains Midstream Canada is wholly owned subsidiary of Plains All American Pipeline.
