CALGARY – Several energy companies headquartered in downtown Calgary are trying to work around the flooding that’s forced them out of their office towers and restricted access to the city core.

Encana Corp. (TSX:ECA) said employees who are able to work have been asked to log in from home.

“We are encouraging people, if they are capable, to work from home, but in our instructions to employees number one is, ensure the safety and security of your family and your property and yourself,” said spokesman Jay Averill.

The company said early indications suggest minimal, if any, impacts on its operations outside of downtown Calgary.

“From what we understand right now, there hasn’t been any major impact on any of the areas where we have wells,” said Averill.

Imperial Oil’s downtown offices were also closed Monday.

A statement the company (TSX:IMO) posted on its website Sunday told employees to contact their managers to discuss whether an alternative work arrangement is necessary.

Talisman Energy (TSX:TLM) said a small number of employees who are engaged in “critical” business activities were given access to the company’s offices, as some parts of the city have been reopened.

The head office of Enbridge Inc. (TSX:ENB) in Calgary was also closed Monday as the company grappled with a spill from its Line 37 pipeline in northern Alberta, possibly as a result of shifting ground due to unusually heavy rains.
