STRATHCONA COUNTY, AB, June 10, 2015 /CNW/ – On Wednesday, June 10, National Energy Board (NEB) officials will oversee and evaluate a full scale emergency exercise at the Kinder Morgan Edmonton Terminal tank farm. The tank farm is located in Strathcona Country, next to the City of Edmonton.

The Kinder Morgan Canada exercise fulfills an NEB-ordered condition of approval for the company’s Edmonton Terminal Expansion Project, which was approved in June 2008.

NEB officials will participate in, and evaluate, Kinder Morgan’s capability to respond effectively should an incident occur at its Edmonton Terminal tank farm.

Companies are expected to have the capacity to respond in the event of an emergency incident and to anticipate, prevent, manage and mitigate risks associated with their pipelines.

Should the company be found in non-compliance during the exercise, the NEB will take appropriate enforcement actions. The NEB will take all available actions to protect the public and the environment.

The full scale exercise will take place on June 9 and June 10, with the deployment of equipment and personnel occurring on the second day. Over 100 emergency personnel are scheduled to take part, including NEB and company officials, provincial and municipal agencies and local emergency services.

The National Energy Board is an independent federal regulator of several parts of Canada’s energy industry with the safety of Canadians and protection of the environment as its top priority. Its purpose is to regulate pipelines, energy development and trade in the Canadian public interest. For more information on the NEB and its mandate, please visit www.neb-one.gc.ca.
