HOUSTON, TX–(Marketwired – Aug 27, 2015) – Cimation has been selected by Shell as a key provider of industrial cybersecurity consulting, network engineering, endpoint remediation, and system hardening for the Shell Process Control Domain (PCD) IT Security Program, a global program to standardize cybersecurity technology and processes across the company’s global assets.

Cimation, an operations consulting company focused on industrial control system (ICS) security, will assist in the planning, deployment, and commissioning of the multi-year program in collaboration with other Shell suppliers. Currently, Cimation’s industrial control system cybersecurity experts hold key delivery and technical roles on the Shell PCD IT Security Program team.

Cimation and other industry leaders previously worked with Shell to develop the Global Industrial Cyber Security Professional (GICSP) certification. Launched by the Global Information Assurance Certification (GIAC) in 2013, it remains one of the only professional certifications that specifically addresses the cybersecurity threats facing automation and industrial control systems.

“Cimation is committed to securing critical infrastructure throughout the energy industry by increasing the awareness and adoption of cybersecurity practices,” said Carl Fangue, Cimation’s Global Program Director for the Shell PCD IT Security program. “As a part of Shell’s PCD IT Security program, we are contributing to the future of cybersecurity for industrial control systems both at Shell and in the energy industry as a whole.”

Global oil and gas companies face many operational challenges as industrial technology grows in complexity and connectivity. Along with its myriad of benefits, the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) brings with it new threats to system availability and safety that organizations must proactively protect against. Cybersecurity is the newest safety challenge facing energy companies and must be treated with the same consideration as traditional health and environmental concerns.

“Cimation has long believed that energy companies need to invest in cybersecurity for the sake of health, safety, environment, and economics. Cybersecurity is not just a technology problem — it’s a major business risk if not properly addressed,” said Jonathan Klein, Cimation’s Chief Executive Officer. “By viewing industrial cybersecurity through the lens of process control and safety, our ICS cybersecurity consultants design and integrate systems and build corporate governance programs that are both extensible and secure.”
