National Energy Board releases TransCanada PipeLines investigation report

CALGARY, Oct. 30, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ – The National Energy Board (NEB) has released its investigation into 16 allegations of regulatory non-compliance made through the NEB's whistleblower process against TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. (TransCanada).

The NEB's investigation concludes: 

  • Six of the 16 third-party allegations were partially substantiated and TransCanada has taken all appropriate corrective and preventative actions.
  • Ten allegations could not be verified.
  • Public safety and environmental protection was not at risk.

The report notes that TransCanada addressed all partially substantiated allegations and completed corrective actions to ensure continued compliance with NEB regulations.

The NEB takes all allegations of regulatory non-compliance seriously and will respond immediately when public safety or the environmental is at risk.

Enforcement action is not required and the NEB considers all 16 allegations resolved and closed.

  • During the 2014/2015 fiscal year, the NEB conducted 192 pipeline and facility inspections.

  • During the 2014/2015 fiscal year, the NEB conducted six company audits.
