In the past two days, the BOE Report server crashed and the site experienced downtime and as a result, users could not access BOERreport.com.

Server Requests

Typically, the BOE Report server receives approximately 200,000 requests per day.

This is not to be confused with different traffic analytic tools such as unique visitors (users) or pageviews. The BOE Report usually receives 10,000 users/day and 27,000 pageviews. A request comes from users, bots and when other websites which use BOE Report widgets, news and data are loaded.

What Happened?

Over the past couple of days, the BOE Report experienced an unprecedented amount of traffic.

On Tuesday, January 12, the BOE Report server received over 1,000,000 requests. On Wednesday, January 13, the server received over 500,000 requests between 12am and 8:30am.

This was too much for the website’s server and it subsequently locked up.

Remedy

The lock-up issue occurred two days in a row and caused downtime approaching a total of five cumulative hours. The staff at the BOE Report immediately took action and swithed the site to a more powerful cloud-based server. The switch to a new server will ensure two things: 1) better site speed 2) server redundancy – if one server goes down, another will take over and eliminate downtime

Once again, the staff at the BOE Report would like to sincerely apologize for any inconveniences the downtime may have caused. We will continue to work hard in providing the best all-in-one real-time source for news headlines, well and drilling activity, property listings, economic reports and commodity prices.
