History matters. History shapes the way we view the present, and helps dictate answers offered for existing problems.

The Petroleum History Society, a Calgary based volunteer run organization, has a mandate to preserve the history of the Canadian petroleum industry.

Regular activities for the society include lunches with speakers and the distribution of an archives newsletter about eight times every year. PHS has accomplished many different things to advance the preservation of Canada’s petroleum industry including 3 oral history projects, a timeline on the global petroleum industry, a study on Canadas’ petroleum beginnings and are always looking for new projects. The organization welcomes anyone with an interest in petroleum history to join the group with members from many segments of the industry.

Participation in the Petroleum History Society will help preserve the past, including the stories of the many companies that have come and gone.

On the Society’s website, you can find many different contributions to the history of Canada’s petroleum industry.

Users can learn about old oil and gas companies already researched in response to queries from people using the website, and many other interesting things.

Please consider becoming a member of the organization and to help sustain the Society’s mandate to preserve our nation’s petroleum history!
