New President and CEO at Sproule Focused on Expanding Footprint and Expertise Delivered to the Market

CALGARY, April 21, 2016 Sproule announces that Lowy Gunnewiek, Chairman of Sproule’s Board of Directors is now President and CEO, effective April 1, 2016.  This and other organizational changes are being made to support Sproule’s expansion in terms of geographical footprint and expertise being offered to clients.  Sproule remains focused on delivering independent petroleum consulting and advisory services underpinned by a deep technical, commercial and strategic understanding of the industry.

He is a client focused leader, and provided key leadership for reorganizing Sproule into core practice areas: Reserves Certification, Strategic Advisory, Field Development & Capital Strategies, Reservoir Characterization and Training in order to provide better alignment with clients’ needs,” said Mark McMurray, independent member of Sproule’s board.  “We expect our focused service offerings will have a positive and immediate impact in terms of the value Sproule can deliver to clients around the world.”

A proven senior executive and professional engineer with 30 years of experience in the global oil and gas, power generation, mining & metals, and infrastructure sectors, Gunnewiek has a background in business leadership, technology, project development and management.  Gunnewiek will focus on building and leading a strong team of professionals that will achieve high-value business results.

Strategically, Sproule will continue to leverage a technology-agnostic approach to its work, utilizing leading technologies and best-in-class solutions to enable clients to increase the accuracy of analysis and improve the efficiency of operations.  In addition, Sproule will leverage the expertise of leading geoscience and engineering experts, both internally and through partnerships, to create new and innovative services, technology solutions and training programs to optimize capital allocation along the petroleum value chain.

Mr. Gunnewiek has undergraduate and graduate degrees from Ryerson University and the University of Waterloo, and is registered as a Professional Engineer in the provinces of Alberta and Ontario, Canada.  He has published over 30 technical papers and four patents. Serving on the boards of Sproule, Switchable Solutions Inc., Hatch Ltd. (the Canadian Division of the Hatch Group of Companies), and Shift Resources Inc., Gunnewiek has participated in corporate governance as well as helping establish and direct growth and operational strategies.

Sproule also announces the retirement of Harry Helwerda effective June 30, 2016. Mr. Helwerda joined Sproule 26 years ago and has held several senior level positions, serving as President for the last three years.  “Harry has been a tremendous leader for our organization and I would like to recognize his significant contribution for building a strong corporate culture of teamwork and technical excellence,” said Lowy Gunnewiek, Chairman and CEO of Sproule. Cam Six, Sproule’s Chief Engineer, will add the responsibility of Chief Operating Officer. In this capacity, Cam will continue to lead Sproule’s Engineering and Geoscience teams in best practices and technical excellence, as well as turning his focus to optimizing operations for accurate and timely delivery of Sproule solutions.
