Alberta May 25 Land Sale Results Rebound to $4.1 million

This week’s Alberta Crown Mineral Rights Sale was held on Wednesday, May 25 and produced $4.1 million in proceeds for the province.  This is a dramatic turn around from the previous sale, May 11, which only resulted in $1.1 million in revenue.

There were a total of 52 parcels with acceptable lease bids, including 1 Oil Sands lease.  The total for all 9 sales so far this year is $44.5 million.

The chart below illustrates the trend of the sale results for all of 2016 so far.

The total area of the 52 parcels in this week’s sale were 14.5 thousand hectares with an average sale price of $292.98 per hectare versus $48.28 per hectare for the previous sale on May 11th.

Twenty-seven companies participated and the largest bid was $1.2 million paid by a land agent for a six section parcel in the Wainwright area of East Central Alberta.  The largest  non-land agent bidder was Canadian Non Operated Resources Ltd. who paid $904 thousand to acquire 3 sections in the Wembley/Dimsdale region of North West Alberta.
