Canadian drillers have increased total utilization by 17 rigs this week as operations slowly commence. This is the 5th straight week western Canada has added rigs to its oilpatch. The total count sits at 119.

Alberta added the most (12 rigs), increasing its total working fleet from 67 to 79.

Oil drilling rigs have eclipsed gas drilling for the first time since February this year. Current counts sit at 60 and 56 respectively.

Rig counts are still substantially lower than normal. Last year, 215 rigs were operating and 2 years ago, nearly 400 were drilling.
