The 14th Alberta land sale of the year, held on August 3, has earned Alberta a total of  $11.21 million, making this the second largest sale result of the year.  The biggest Alberta sale so far for 2016 was on June 22 and that one netted $16.1 million for the province.

There were a total of 72 parcels with acceptable lease bids including 3 Oil Sands Leases for this sale. The total for all 14 sales so far for 2016 is $76.2 million.  This is still well behind this time last year, when the total after 14 land sales was $193 million.

The chart below illustrates the trend of the sale results for all of 2016 so far.

The total area of the 72 parcels in this week’s sale was 46.17 thousand hectares with an average sale price of $242.83 per hectare and that is slightly higher than the $207.13 per hectare for the previous sale on July 20.

Twenty-seven companies participated and the largest bid was $1.1 million paid by a land agent for petroleum and natural gas rights in each of 3 sections in the Gold Creek area of North Western Alberta.

The largest amount paid by an operating company, Barnwell of Canada Limited, was $207.1 thousand for 1 section in the Valhalla area of North West Alberta.

The complete list of successful bidders is in the chart below.
