Canadian drillers added 6 rigs this week as operations head into fall drilling season. Currently, western Canada has 138 rigs working from its fleet of 669 (according to CAODC).

Alberta added 9 rigs, increasing its total working fleet to 93. BC and Saskatchewan counts dropped by 2 each.

Oil drilling has been more active of late as drilling for gas has been consistently hovering around the 60 rig mark. Current counts sit at 77 (oil) and 61 (gas).

Rig counts are still significantly lower than normal. Last year, 176 rigs were operating and 2 years ago, over 429 were drilling.
