Yesterday’s Alberta land sale earned the province $9.145 million dollars – that’s 38% higher than the $6.6 million earned in the previous sale on October 12 and enough to make this the fifth best sale of the year.

There were a total of 132 parcels with successful bids for this sale and the cumulative total for all 2016 Alberta land sales now stands at $134.9 million.

The chart below illustrates the trend of the Alberta land sale results for all of 2016 and also shows the running total for the year.

The total area of the 132 parcels in this week’s sale was 60.4 thousand hectares with an average sale price of $151.48 per hectare. That’s only slightly below the average for all of 2016 so far of $153.82 per hectare

Forty-four companies participated, and the largest bid accepted for a single parcel was $1.66 million paid by a land agent.  That was for deeper rights for a half section parcel in the Big Valley area of South Central Alberta.  That works out to $6,488/ha. That area is primarily known for shallow gas production from late Cretaceous sandstones though it’s not far from some prolific Nisku and Leduc oil plays.

The complete list of successful bidders is in the chart below.
