Yesterday’s Alberta land sale has earned the province $9.82 million in Lease and License fees, including $670,000 for oilsands leases.  The total for the first four sales of 2017 so far is $62.8 million, which compares very favourably with the $19.6 million earned by this time in 2016.

There were a total of 97 parcels with successful bids for this sale. The chart below illustrates the trend of the Alberta land sales since the beginning of 2016 and also shows the running total for that period.

The total area of the 97 parcels in this week’s sale was 53,800 hectares with an average bid price of $182.52 per hectare.  That compares to $403.24 per hectare for the last sale on February 8 and is a 55% decrease in the average price per hectare.

Fifty companies participated, compared to forty-nine in the last sale. The highest amount paid was $1.2 million by a land agent for a 3 section parcel in the Dimsdale Deep Basin area of North West Alberta, an area known for Triassic gas production. The largest successful bid from a non agent was from Yangarra Resources Ltd. who paid $354 thousand for a 1.25 section in the Ferrier area of West-Central Alberta. That area is known for Cardium oil and gas production.

The complete list of successful bidders is in the chart below.
