Western Canada’s fleet of drilling rigs are slowing down on account of seasonality in the drilling business with only 155 actively drilling according to data collected by Baker Hughes for the week of March 31.

Drilling activity is starting to slow down, but still very active in comparison to last year’s count (only 110 active rigs).

Will will see a continued drop in activity due to the upcoming spring breakup. Rigs activity will stay low likely until June, when activity will start to pick up again.

From one week ago, Alberta has seen a decrease in activity from 145 to 123 active rigs, Saskatchewan also dropped – current count at 3, down from 9.

Oil drilling dropped to 55 rigs from 70; gas rigs decrease to 100 from 114.
