Western Canada’s fleet of drilling rigs are slowing down on account of seasonality in the drilling business with only 132 actively drilling according to data collected by Baker Hughes for the week of April 7.

Drilling activity is starting to slow down, but still very active in comparison to last year’s count.

Will will see a continued drop in activity due to the upcoming spring breakup. Rigs activity will stay low likely until June, when activity will start to pick up again.

From one week ago, Alberta has seen a decrease in activity from 123 to 107 active rigs, Saskatchewan also dropped – current count at 1, down from 3.

Oil drilling dropped to 42 rigs from 55; gas rigs decrease to 90 from 100.
