Low-Cost, Low-Maintenance, GEOWEB Oil Drilling Platforms Built for Heavy Traffic & Soft Ground Challenges

Oil company Angle Energy made effective use of the GEOWEB system in Alberta’s OLDS Area where they were challenged with creating a drilling platform for a remote location with low-strength soil conditions—a location where deep rutting had occurred with just a single pass. Several new wells were planned on this site, but with no pipeline access, continual traffic by heavy tanker trucks was required.

After reviewing costs compared to typical “Rig or Swamp Matting”, the energy company chose the GEOWEB system as it offered the most cost-effective solution for long-term use.  Presto’s GEOWEB GW30V6 system was installed with a Mirafi® HP270 high strength geotextile and aggregate infill to create a stable working platform.

Due to the ease of installation, the owner was able to use local labor.  A crew of 6 workers installed 8,400 square meters in five hours (280 sm/man-hr).  This high speed of installation helped to minimize downtime on site.
