Core Laboratories Integrated Reservoir Solutions Division is proposing a new study focusing on the characterization and evaluation of numerous legacy (and new) conventional cores taken from multiple wells in the Duvernay East Shale Basin.  These will be analyzed for geological, petrophysical, geomechanical, geochemical, and production properties.  Data is then integrated with well logs, stimulation designs and production test information.

The East Shale basin has three major potential success contributing factors including:

  • Shallower depth than West Shale Basin Duvernay (av. 2000-2500 meters)
  • It is entirely in the oil window, meaning more wells per section and higher valuations
  • Has a strong geographical advantage. The area is well connected to infrastructure (i.e. pipelines, roads, etc) making accessibility easy and development costs much more manageable

However, due to significant carbonate reef input, the Duvernay East Shale Basin will have unique completion complications to overcome.
