Prime Minister Justin Trudeau today is ‘listening’ to the concerns of Canada’s oil and gas industry by making an appearance in Calgary. Sure enough, there is a large protest occurring outside the Hyatt hotel – where Trudeau is set to put his best ‘listening’ skills to work. The protest’s organizers see his presence as an opportunity to tell the Prime Minister Canadians deserve better.
The event was put on by Canada Action. Here’s text from the invite:
On the energy front, Canadians have reason to be frustrated, from the cancellation of the approved Northern Gateway Pipeline, and the regulatory roadblocks which resulted in the demise of Energy East, to the purchase of the Trans Mountain Pipeline project by taxpayers and the resulting costly delays in its construction.
All of these setbacks are further compounded by the devastating impacts of the Bill C-48 tanker ban, and now the highly problematic Bill C-69 that would drive even more investment from the sector. Canada’s most important export industry is beleaguered like never before, and we are calling upon Calgarians to make their voices heard. As federal taxpayers, we are all owners of the TransMountain Expansion project. So, we need to demand some answers,” wrote Canada Action in a statement.
People in droves are taking to Twitter (alongside their protesting efforts) to express their anger with the Trudeau government’s perceived failure to proactively look out for the best interests of the vital Canadian oil and gas industry.
