The discount on Western Canada Select (WCS) heavy crude versus the North American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) widened marginally on Thursday:

* WCS for December delivery in Hardisty, Alberta, settled at $11.45 a barrel under the WTI benchmark, according to brokerage CalRock, having settled at a discount of $11.40 a barrel under the U.S. benchmark on Wednesday.

* Global oil prices closed slightly higher in choppy trading, as a steep draw in U.S. fuel stocks outweighed oversupply concerns and demand worries stemming from a stronger dollar.

* The outright price of WCS was around $57 a barrel.
