The discount on Western Canada Select (WCS) heavy crude versus the North American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) was steady on Monday:

* WCS for February delivery in Hardisty, Alberta, settled at $12.15 a barrel under the WTI benchmark, according to brokerage CalRock, having also settled at $12.15 a barrel under the U.S. benchmark on Friday.

* Oil prices climbed about 2% to a four-month high on Monday on expectations that wider U.S. sanctions on Russian oil would force buyers in India and China to seek other suppliers.
