Discount on Western Canada Select heavy crude widens

The discount on Western Canada Select (WCS) heavy crude versus the North American benchmark West Texas Intermediate (WTI) widened on Monday:

* WCS for February delivery in Hardisty, Alberta, settled at $12.35 a barrel under the WTI benchmark, according to brokerage CalRock, having settled at $12.15 a barrel under the U.S. benchmark on Monday.

* Oil prices slipped on Tuesday after a U.S. government agency forecast steady U.S. oil demand in 2025 while lifting its forecast for supply.
