On January 30th, dozens of professionals from the oil & gas industry will be braving the elements for an outdoor hockey tournament. The 2nd Annual Pucks For Prostates Charity Hockey Tournament presented by FET Multilift Solutions will be taking place at the Parkdale Community Association outdoor rink from 9am – 6pm on January 30th. Although it’s not difficult for most hockey players to find an excuse to take some time off work for a skate with their colleagues, in this case, the reasoning is simple; spread awareness and help fundraise for the Prostate Cancer Centre (prostatecancercentre.ca)
The Prostate Cancer Centre (PCC) is a Calgary based charitable organization that, in partnership with the Southern Alberta Institute of Urology, provides a one-stop shop of support and comprehensive programs & services for patients and their families that are dealing with prostate cancer. Every step of a patient’s journey is supported by PCC, from blood tests for early prostate cancer detection, to post-operative care and mental wellness support. The PCC has recently expanded from coverage of Southern Alberta to the entire province of Alberta, where 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Amazingly, the PCC relies almost 100% on public support through fundraising and donations.
Thanks to industry support, for the 2nd year in a row, on January 30th at the Parkdale Community Association outdoor rink you will find a large group of grown men from the oil and gas industry battling on the ice, sharing laughs, enjoying the winter weather and making pit stops in The MAN VAN®. The first of its kind, the Prostate Cancer Centre’s MAN VAN® is a mobile medical clinic providing PSA (Prostate Specific Antigen) testing for men between the ages of 40 and 70. A quick PSA test can be the early detection that is crucial to an individual beating prostate cancer. Fully funded by donations and fundraising, the MAN VAN® travels Alberta throughout the year making 250+ stops to set-up as a mobile clinic – potentially saving lives in the process. This year The MAN VAN® will be on-site at the Pucks For Prostates tournament from 11am – 3pm on January 30th and is public clinic – meaning Albertans between 40 & 70 years old can stop by for a free PSA test while also checking out the hockey on the ice.
FET Multilift Solutions, a service company providing artificial lift protection in the oil and gas industry, first partnered with the Prostate Cancer Centre in February of 2024 for the inaugural Pucks For Prostates tournament. Anybody in attendance for that first event knows that it was successful, enjoyable and well worth repeating on an annual basis. The plan is for the 2nd Annual Pucks For Prostates tournament to be bigger and better with hopes that this becomes a marquee event on the Canadian oil & gas calendar.
If you would like to support the Prostate Cancer Centre and the Pucks For Prostates tournament, donations can be made online at the tournament’s donation website HERE. The organizers also invite you out to the Parkdale Community Association on January 30th to watch some hockey, share some laughs, make some new connections, get tested in the MAN VAN® and ultimately support the Prostate Cancer Centre, a great local organization that is helping men across Alberta battle prostate cancer.
