Electricity generation using natural gas has more than doubled in Pennsylvania since 2013, driven by a shift toward clean energy, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) said on Wednesday.

Last October, more than 57% of the state’s electricity was generated through natural gas, compared with 26% in October 2013, according to the government agency.

Natural gas-fired generation hit a record monthly high of 15.3 million megawatthours (MWh) in Pennsylvania in July 2024, as heatwaves led to peak electricity demand in some parts of the United States, the EIA said.
