It’s so simple that it’s a surprise that it hasn’t been thought of before. If President Trump wants the border secured and the flow of fentanyl stopped, why doesn’t the Canadian government propose to secure the border and stop the flow of fentanyl?

While the Canadian Liberal government continues to be prorogued sorting out their own internal mess, Alberta Premier Danielle Smith has taken on a leadership role in meeting with President Trump down at Mar-a-Lago and today proposing that Canada take these threats seriously and do everything possible to avoid a tariff war.

These suggestions seem reasonable. Perhaps if the Canadian government was not prorogued by Justin Trudeau then it could be debated in Ottawa.

Sadly for Canadians, the Liberal government appears to be in no hurry to get back to work. In fact, Polymarket odds for an “election called before April” plunged down to 45% today from 63% the day prior. Hopefully, for Canada’s sake, the internal politics can take a back seat to the fact that this tariff threat is real and that actual leadership is needed at the federal level as well…and quickly.
