ESG Solutions Unveils Latest Microseismic Analysis Service for Enhanced Reservoir Characterization and Production Forecasting

February 29, 20168:05 AM PR Newswire

HOUSTON, Feb. 29, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — ESG Solutions, an industry leader in microseismic technology and services, is pleased to announce the recent launch of its Enhanced Reservoir Characterization (ERC) service for hydraulic fracturing.  Building on its patented methods for characterizing fluid flow and reservoir drainage patterns using microseismicity, the new service helps clients to better understand reservoir processes for improved hydraulic fracture efficiencies, and demonstrates the potential for outlining production from hydraulic fracturing.

In the current economic climate, operators are even more interested in maximizing production efficiencies, and advanced microseismic analysis is a valuable tool in this quest.  “Over 20+ years in the microseismic industry, ESG has seen the focus of microseismic analysis for hydraulic fracturing change from evaluation of discrete seismic event locations to understanding the collective behaviour of clusters of seismicity on reservoir deformation,” says Dr. Ted Urbancic, Chief Technology Officer at ESG.  “Operators are constantly looking to tie microseismicity to production, and we’re happy to be able to provide this next piece of the puzzle.”

In 2013, ESG launched its patented Flow-line™ technology which provided operators with a greater understanding of fluid flow and reservoir drainage patterns following hydraulic fracturing stimulations.  “This service told us a lot about where reservoirs were being effectively stimulated, but we didn’t necessarily understand how stimulation activities were impacting reservoir deformation,” says Urbancic.

ESG’s new ERC service is an extension from their patent-pending SMTI Production Suite™ which uses advanced moment tensor analysis to evaluate the way in which rock fractures in response to hydraulic fracturing stimulations.  “We are using a suite of new dynamic parameters to evaluate reservoir deformation efficiency,” says Dr. Adam Baig, Manager of Advanced Analytics at ESG.  “We are seeing that these dynamic parameters are linked to rock properties and fracture success, and ultimately production volumes. Client feedback has been really encouraging.”

Continuing ESG’s commitment to innovation and growth, the new service launch follows the recent integration of Spectraseis Inc. into ESG, which further expanded the company’s surface-based and induced seismicity monitoring (ISM) capabilities.  “ESG has always been at the forefront of advancements in microseismic technology and processing and continues to make significant investments in analytical and product R&D to ensure that our clients receive the highest quality and most technologically advanced solution in the industry,” says Urbancic.  ESG’s ERC service can be applied to all microseismic acquisition and data types, including downhole, surface and ISM.

ESG will be presenting some of their recent findings on production forecasting at the Geoconvention in Calgary from March 7-9, 2016.
