Young Has Not Accepted Oil Sands Producers’ Meeting Offer, Says No to a Balanced News Conference

January 19, 201411:13 AM Marketwired0 Comments

CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwired – Jan. 19, 2014) – Entertainer Neil Young and Athabasca Fort Chipewyan First Nation chief Allan Adam have not accepted to an offer to meet with oil sands producers prior to Young’s benefit concert today.

At its media conference on January 16, CAPP said the industry would be pleased to sit down with Mr. Young and Chief Adam and have a balanced discussion about oil sands and Aboriginal engagement.

CAPP and Neil Young’s public relations representative made contact, but they have unfortunately not accepted oil sands producers’ offer of a meeting.

Young’s representative suggested oil sands producers participate in Neil Young’s media conference today, but when CAPP requested a neutral moderator and equal representation, the organizer said this was not acceptable.

“Oil sands producers said we’d be willing to sit down on Neil Young’s stage with a neutral moderator and balanced representation, and we’re disappointed these reasonable terms could not be met. Regardless, our invitation to meet with Neil Young or Chief Adam at a future date remains open,” said Dave Collyer, CAPP’s president.

The Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) represents companies, large and small, that explore for, develop and produce natural gas and crude oil throughout Canada. CAPP’s member companies produce about 90 per cent of Canada’s natural gas and crude oil. CAPP’s associate members provide a wide range of services that support the upstream crude oil and natural gas industry. Together CAPP’s members and associate members are an important part of a national industry with revenues of about $100 billion a year. CAPP’s mission is to enhance the economic sustainability of the Canadian upstream petroleum industry in a safe and environmentally and socially responsible manner, through constructive engagement and communication with governments, the public and stakeholders in the communities in which we operate.
