In 2019, Saskatchewan will begin its process of licensing flowlines. While details are still being finalized through consultations with industry, we know there will be a retroactive licensing component that will require companies to submit details of their existing flowlines.
The process of validating and submitting this information will be a major initiative for most operators. That’s why GDM Pipelines will be there with you every step of the way to make the submission process as seamless as possible.
What are the requirements?
Before the new system goes live (anticipated to be March 31, 2019), companies may submit information about their existing flowlines to have a license issued when the new system launches. Operators will be required to provide seven mandatory elements, including Status, Substance, Owner, Start Location, End Location, Start Node Type and End Node Type at this time.
Over time, the list of attributes will expand, but these seven will be required to receive the initial license. Providing a shapefile at this time will also be optional, although shapefiles will also need to be submitted for all lines in the future.
How can you be prepared?
The most important thing you can do now is validate, update and store your pipeline records. This will make things easier once the submission process begins.

- View the current list of attributes and original documents in Converge to learn as much as you can about the history of the pipeline;
- Complete any required field validation work;
- Store validated information in Converge.
Converge allows you to store all attributes, so you will be prepared when the requirements expand. You will also be able to export shapefiles from Converge later this winter.
