CALGARY – The governor of Colorado says he thinks Americans who are against the proposed Keystone XL pipeline may be beginning to change their minds.

John Hickenlooper has wrapped up a three-day visit to Alberta which included a tour of the oilsands.

Hickenlooper, a Democrat, hasn’t taken a political stance in support of the pipeline that would carry bitumen from the oilsands to U.S. refineries.

But he says the public needs to focus on the facts when it comes to Alberta oil.

He says the environmental footprint is roughly the same as that of a similar product from California or Venezuela, but Alberta oil is safer to transport by pipeline and costs less.

The governor says a price differential of $20 a barrel covers a lot of environmental investment.
