Initial production data is out for April in Alberta. Alberta has reported oil, condensate, and gas; full Alberta NGL data (including pentane) and marketable gas is due out in a couple weeks. While the April data won’t be considered complete until the rest of the Alberta data has been reported, it is nonetheless worthwhile to show the data as it stands today. Pentane volumes in Alberta will not be represented yet for April which will affect liquids results, and “gas equivalent” volumes will be used instead of “marketable gas” in cases where marketable gas is not yet available. As always, we use calendar day production metrics so these are real volumes produced in the month. Despite the incomplete version of this data, it is still interesting to present it as this data is fresh.

TOP 15 OIL/CONDENSATE WELLS (see on StackDX Maps)
Notable oil/condensate wells:
- It’s a Charlie Lake takeover of the top wells list! A record 4 wells from the formation made the top 15 this month.
- Archer Exploration had 2 big Charlie Lake wells in the top 4. The company’s top well produced a whopping 1,559 bbl/d of oil in April.
- Tamarack Valley had the other 2 big Charlie Lake wells this month. The company’s top well was #2 on our list with 1,255 bbl/d of oil produced.
- ARC Resources had 7 wells make the top 15, all from the condensate rich Montney in Alberta. Unsurprisingly, the Karr field was where the majority of these wells came from (5), but perhaps a bit of a surprise to see 2 wells from Ante Creek competing as well.
- Obsidian gets welcomed to our Top Well Report with its first appearance. A truly massive Cardium oil well from Pembina produced 918 bbl/d of oil, good for #5 overall and definitely one of the top Cardium oil wells in years.
- Aspenleaf Energy is back with a 872 bbl/d Nisku oil well from the Leduc field.
- Whitecap had 2 top wells in April (1 still licensed to Veren). Whitecap’s Kakwa Montney well is the “oldest” on this list to still be going strong after being placed on production on November 15, 2024. This well has produced over 135,000 barrels of condensate in its ~5.5 months on production.
TOP 15 OIL/CONDENSATE WELLS – April volumes – Alberta only – initial liquids data (pentane volumes not yet reported for April)
*partial April data only, AB pentane volumes not yet reported. “Gas equivalent” volumes represented in gas column until “marketable gas” is reported.
**TOP WELL REPORTS generally filter out oil sands/thermal wells, and only consider onshore Canadian production. However, BOE Intel subscribers can choose their own well types and include or exclude these wells
