Current CEO stepping down in December 2026 to pursue a new opportunity

EDMONTON, AB, Nov. 5, 2026 /CNW/ — Alberta Indigenous Opportunities Corporation (AIOC) is actively recruiting for a new CEO following the announcement that the current CEO, Chana Martineau, is moving to an executive position at one of Canada’s leading corporations after 5 years of service with AIOC.

“As CEO, Chana was instrumental in supporting Indigenous Nations and groups pursue large-scale investment opportunities,” said Stephen Buffalo, Chair of the AIOC Board of Directors. “Under Chana’s leadership, AIOC grew to be nationally and globally recognized, advancing reconciliation for Indigenous Nations and groups across Alberta. We thank Chana for her service and commitment to AIOC and wish her well in her path forward.”

“To lead the incredible team at AIOC was a tremendous honour and a privilege,” said Chana Martineau, the CEO of AIOC. “Together, we have supported 43 First Nations & Metis Groups as they invested more than $1.5 billion in crucial infrastructure in our province, through the support of approximately $745 million in loan guarantees and over $10 million in capacity grant funding since inception.  We inspired the nation to see the possibilities in Indigenous economic inclusion. Thank you to the dedicated team, past and present. You inspired me each day with your passion and commitment. It is now time to pass the torch to a new leader to carry on leading the great work of the organization. Thank you to the Government of Alberta and AIOC’s Board of Directors for their unwavering support of our mandate.”

After Martineau’s departure in mid-December 2026, Steven Kroeker, AIOC’s Chief Investment Officer, will serve as Interim CEO. “We have tremendous confidence in the strength of the entire AIOC team,” said Buffalo. “As we recruit for our next CEO, we will build on our solid foundation and the tremendous momentum we’ve had to date.”

AIOC’s $3 billion Indigenous Loan Guarantee Program has supported nine transactions since its inception in 2019 and is well positioned to support continued investments by Indigenous Nations and groups in existing assets and new build assets.  AIOC is a provincial Crown corporation established by the Government of Alberta. www.theaioc.com
