Natural gas prices have been rising quickly in recent months as cold weather blanketed the United States through March and into early April. Half of U.S. homes use natural gas for heating.
NYMEX natural gas rose 4.6 per cent Friday to close at $4.13 per thousand cubic feet. That’s the highest close for natural gas since August 2011. The price has doubled since last year at this time, when the nation was emerging from the warmest winter on record.
AECO gas finished up $0.11 to $3.57/Mcf.
