June 19, 20133:06 PM Marketwired

CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwired – June 19, 2013) –

NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION TO UNITED STATES NEWSWIRE SERVICES OR FOR DISSEMINATION IN THE UNITED STATES

Birchcliff Energy Ltd. (“Birchcliff” or the “Corporation”) (TSX:BIR) regrets to announce the passing of Gordon W. (Scotty) Cameron, on June 18, 2013, a founding shareholder and Director of Birchcliff, at the age of 82.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our friend, Scotty Cameron” said Jeff Tonken, President and CEO of Birchcliff. “Scotty was an experienced oilman, a dedicated and diligent director whose strong leadership has been invaluable to Birchcliff. Prior to his involvement with Birchcliff, Scotty was a founding shareholder and Director of each of Stampeder Exploration Ltd., Big Bear Exploration Ltd. and Case Resources Ltd. Scotty was a team player and extremely knowledgeable about the natural gas industry. Scotty’s insight, character and warmth, will be dearly missed by his many friends at Birchcliff, as well as his friends and colleagues throughout the industry and our community. On behalf of the entire Birchcliff organization, I would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Scotty’s wife Joan, his daughters Maggie and her husband Bill and Catherine and her husband Bruce, his grandchildren and his extended family and friends around the globe.”

Scotty’s long and varied career included many noteworthy accomplishments, a partial list of which includes being Deputy Minister of Industry and Commerce in the Saskatchewan Government; President and Chief Executive Officer of Pan Alberta Gas; Director of the Calgary Stampeder Football Club; President of the Calgary Petroleum Club; President of the Canada Energy Council; President of the World Energy Council; Chair of the 1983 Calgary United Way Campaign; Chairman of the Calgary Oilman’s Golf Tournament; Honorary Colonel of the Calgary Highlanders Regiment; Governor of the University of Calgary; and director of numerous public and private oil and gas companies.

Among the numerous awards Scotty received, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 1995, an award he proudly wore on a daily basis. Scotty was inducted into the Saskatchewan Petroleum Industry Hall of Fame on June 11, 1997.

Scotty’s memoir is entitled “The Man from Mankota”, in recognition of his birth in Mankota, Saskatchewan. Certainty, the Man from Mankota played an important role in the development of Alberta’s natural gas industry and was a significant member of Calgary’s oil and gas industry.

We grieve the loss of a valued business associate and a wonderful friend, who through his life’s work, left this world a better place.

ON BEHALF OF HIS FRIENDS AT BIRCHCLIFF
