HAMILTON – Hamilton police have arrested a group of protesters who were occupying a rural Enbridge pumping station.
Police say approximately 16 protesters were on site Wednesday and a number of them were arrested early this morning.
The exact number of arrests hasn’t been released.
The protesters had formed a blockade at the Line 9 pumping station in North Westover, located about 30 kilometres northwest of Hamilton, disrupting work there.
Enbridge (TSX:ENB) has received partial approval to reverse the flow of oil between Sarnia, Ont., and Montreal to bring in oil from Alberta. Protesters say they are opposed to Alberta’s crude oil flowing through their community.
Enbridge had obtained a court injunction on Tuesday morning, giving the protesters 24 hours to leave the property.
