MONTREAL, Nov. 27, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ – The Chambre de commerce de l’Est de Montréal (CCEM), which represents more than 1,200 members, today reiterated its support for the proposed reversal of Enbridge’s Line 9B before the parliamentary commission that is examining the project.
“By enabling them to procure crude oil at better prices, reversing Line 9B would ensure the competitiveness of our refineries and petrochemical companies,” said Isabelle Foisy, executive director of the CCEM.
“There are 7,500 direct and indirect jobs that depend on the Quebec chemical and petrochemical industries, and the closing of the Shell refinery had a major impact on Quebec, as well as on the lives of thousands of people. Quebec cannot afford to see another of its refineries to close its doors,” she added.
According to the CCEM, reversing Line 9B is very important both for east-end Montreal and for all of Quebec. “Keeping refineries and chemical and petrochemical companies is a crucial issue for the east end. The reversal of Line 9B is about banking on the future of our territory but, above all, on the future of the families that live and work there,” she concluded.
