OTTERBURNE, Man. – Five homes have been evacuated after a natural gas pipeline explosion early today near the southern Manitoba community of Otterburne.

RCMP have confirmed the fire is coming from a natural gas pipeline in the area about 50 kilometres south of Winnipeg.

TransCanada Pipeline says the pipe has been isolated and the burning gas is non-toxic.

RCMP, the Office of the Fire Commissioner and TransCanada are investigating the cause of the explosion, and the Transportation Safety Board of Canada is sending investigator as well.

No injuries have been reported.

There was Twitter traffic overnight about huge fireballs shooting into the sky that could be seen from several kilometres away. (CJOB, The Canadian Press)
