WINNIPEG – TransCanada Pipelines says it hopes to have natural gas service restored to everyone in frigid southern Manitoba by midday Tuesday.

Vice-president Karl Johannson says some communities may even see their service restored today after a huge explosion near St. Pierre-Jolys over the weekend.

Johannson says it is simply too early to say what caused the blast.

He says the company will compensate people for any direct losses suffered because of the outage.

Many of the 4,000 people affected by the loss of gas proved to be creative and resilient as they entered a third day without heat.

Some hooked up space heaters to ducts in their houses to make sure they stayed warm as the temperature outside dipped to near -30 C.
