CEPA Launches the Regulatory Roadmap to Improve Canadians’ Literacy About How Pipelines Are Regulated

April 9, 20148:00 AM Marketwired

CALGARY, ALBERTA–(Marketwired – April 9, 2014) – The Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) is pleased to launch The Regulatory Roadmap, the latest component of its about pipelines program aimed at improving literacy regarding the transmission pipeline industry among Canadians. Now available on the CEPA website, The Regulatory Roadmap is an interactive, multi-media program that sheds light on the complexities of pipeline regulation in Canada.

Pipeline regulators in Canada are in the midst of a series of important hearings and decision processes about applications to construct new pipelines or alter operations of existing pipelines – hearings that have raised a number of questions about how pipelines are regulated.

“CEPA is well positioned to provide information to help Canadians understand how robust the regulatory environment is for transmission pipelines in Canada and to help inform the current dialogue about development and operation of the network,” says Brenda Kenny, president and CEO of CEPA. “We encourage strong, independent regulatory oversight of our industry, which will provide further assurance to Canadians that our member companies are committed to continually improving pipeline safety.”

The Regulatory Roadmap takes a Q&A-style approach to address common questions Canadians have about the pipeline industry. The multi-media program combines text, animations, videos, and illustrations to explain the regulatory framework in Canada and how it protects the public and the environment.

The information on this important subject is now available on the CEPA website at www.aboutpipelines.com, along with other information about the transmission pipeline industry in Canada.

The Canadian Energy Pipeline Association (CEPA) represents Canada’s transmission pipeline companies who operate approximately 115,000 kilometres of pipelines in Canada. Our members transport 97 per cent of Canada’s daily natural gas and onshore crude oil from producing regions to markets throughout North America, which amounts to approximately 22% of Canada’s mercantile trade.

For more facts about pipelines, we encourage you to visit our website – www.aboutpipelines.com.
