ESG Solutions Announces Successful HFM Deployment of its Next Generation SuperCable™

March 2, 20155:30 AM CNW

Features combined integrated sensors for both Induced Seismic and Microseismic monitoring over six orders of event magnitude

HOUSTON, March 2, 2015 /CNW/ — ESG Solutions, an industry leader in microseismic technology and services has released its latest generation of SuperCable™, a temporary downhole array that now includes low frequency force-balance accelerometers with 2Hz and/or 4.5 Hz geophone sensors in combination with standard 15 Hz geophones, ensuring that over six orders of event magnitudes can be detected.  The SuperCable™ provides a cost-effective alternative to traditional wireline array and surface deployments, providing operators with the opportunity to better understand activities in the reservoir, and their effects on nearby surface infrastructure, at minimal cost and for extended periods of time, from weeks to well over a year.

Microseismic monitoring effectively measures small-scale micro-earthquakes during hydraulic fracturing; however typical downhole microseismic geophones are not optimal for detecting larger magnitude induced seismicity.  The new generation of SuperCable™ has sensors that can detect both larger and smaller events down hole.  Variable spacing of geophones allows for the detection of small events with sensors situated close to the reservoir, and larger events with sensors situated closer to surface.  SuperCable™ arrays are also moveable and re-deployable, so they can be situated on or around pads to optimize performance, and provide maximum detectability and accuracy.  Since SuperCable™ arrays are GPS time synchronized, multiple deployments of the arrays can be used to monitor reservoir activity in real-time.

ESG has recently deployed for several months multiple SuperCable™ arrays to monitor large, multi-well pad completions in North America, specifically in the Marcellus and Utica formations.  High quality signals recorded by the SuperCable™ arrays resulted in significant additional data normally not observed using traditional wireline and near-surface approaches, thereby providing insight into the effectiveness of the stimulation programs.  According to Dr. Ted Urbancic, Executive Vice-President of Global Energy Services at ESG, “The data quality was so high it exceeded anything we have ever recorded using temporary wireline arrays.  The low noise floor allowed for precise event locations to be obtained in real-time, in addition to fulfilling ISM requirements and providing verification of engineering designs.”  ESG has provided microseismic monitoring services to the oil and gas industry for 15 years and continues to develop innovative solutions to meet the industry’s evolving needs, offering integrated solutions to clients to ensure that they receive the maximum value from their microseismic monitoring program.
