Media Advisory: Aker Philadelphia Shipyard Starts Construction on Third and Fourth Product Tankers for Kinder Morgan

–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Aker Philadelphia Shipyard:

BACKGROUND –The new vessels will be 600-foot long and have a carrying capacity of 14.5 million gallons of crude oil or refined products. The vessels will be built with consideration for use of LNG as propulsion in the future and are planned to be delivered between November 2016 and November 2017. Upon their completion they will be sold to subsidiaries of Kinder Morgan. The transaction for the four tankers is valued at a total of $568 million and will help sustain the shipyard’s 1,100 jobs for years to come.

The ceremony will mark the start of production for the third and fourth vessel in the four ship series. The first plate of steel will be cut on the shipyard’s state of the art plasma cutting machine. Lieutenant Governor Stack will push the button to formally begin production.

Guest speakers include Lieutenant Governor Michael J. Stack III.
