MEDIA ADVISORY – The new carbon tax and emissions cap: Will it work and who will pay the price?

November 25, 20159:38 AM CNW

Report and media conference

CALGARY, Nov. 25, 2015 /CNW/ – In 2007, Alberta became the first North American jurisdiction to put a price on carbon- demonstrating that it could be a leader in the effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Unfortunately, that emissions policy was more symbolism than a meaningful reduction in greenhouse gas emissions.

Last Sunday, the NDP released its plan – a carbon tax and a cap on emissions.  But some details have yet to be revealed.  Who exactly will pay this carbon tax and how?  How will it affect industry and families?  Is there more than one way to set up a carbon tax?  What is the optimal structure?

On Thursday, November 26th, The School of Public Policy will release an eye-opening report with strong recommendations for the Alberta government on how to set up the tax to minimize any negative impacts on households, industry and the province's economy as a whole.

WHAT:           Press conference to release report on “The Case for a Carbon Tax in Alberta“
WHEN:           Thursday, Nov. 26, 2015, 10:00 a.m. mountain
WHERE:         Nexen room, 5th floor, 906 -8th Ave. S.W., Calgary, AB
