SAINT-THOMAS, QC, March 8, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ – Harnois Groupe pétrolier is acquiring 36 Esso sites in the Quebec City and Montreal regions. This new agreement with Imperial Oil will further strengthen the leadership position of the independent Quebec distributor.

“We are very pleased that Imperial has selected us to acquire these assets and expand our representation of the Esso brand in metropolitan Montreal and Quebec City,” says Serge Harnois, President and CEO of Harnois Groupe pétrolier. “In recent years, our organization has consistently demonstrated its know-how and has earned the trust of Imperial. Today, we are making a commitment to continue to do so by ensuring the customer remains our primary focus and by developing the brand according to Imperial's stringent quality standards.”

Harnois Groupe pétrolier: Distributor of the Esso brand since 2004

Harnois Groupe pétrolier (HGP) has been a retail distributor of the Esso brand since 2004. Throughout its collaboration with Imperial, HGP has greatly contributed to the growth of the Esso network in Quebec's regions. Twelve years later, upon completion of the transition associated with this new transaction, the Esso network of service stations operated by HGP will increase from 39 to 130 and the volume from 78 to 620 million litres. The stations in this network are located in the Montreal, Quebec City, Lanaudière, Laurentians, Mauricie, Central Quebec, Saguenay-Lac St-Jean, Côte-Nord and Magdalen Islands regions.

HGP also distributes Mobil lubricants. The company has been an Imperial distributor for Mobil products since 2007. From its distribution centre in Saint-Thomas, Quebec, HGP distributes all of the Mobil products sold in the province.

About Harnois Groupe pétrolier

The company, founded in 1958, specializes in the sale and distribution of wholesale and retail petroleum products, lubricants and speciality products. It serves markets in Quebec, Nunavut and Labrador and is currently expanding to other Canadian provinces.

Harnois Groupe pétrolier distributes products and services under the Esso and Mobil brands as well as under private labels Harnois, Pétro-T, H-Go, Diesel Express and Le magasin.

A staff of more than 600 dedicated employees help Harnois Groupe pétrolier fulfil its mission. With the acquisition of the 37 Esso sites, the company will operate a network of over 350 service stations under the Esso, Harnois and Pétro-T banners. Its annual sales volume of light petroleum products (wholesale and retail sales) will exceed 1.6 billion litres.
