Explore Your Industry & Develop Your Network at GPS16

March 23, 20161:00 AM BOE Report Staff

Global Petroleum Show 2016 is one of the most diverse yet. Canada’s largest energy event continues to help the industry re-define itself and align to the energy industries new norm.

The Global Petroleum Show (GPS) has been around for almost 50 years and during that time, it has seen its share of upturns and downturns in the oil and gas industry. What is constant is that the organizers have always found ways to innovate and stay relevant.

“GPS is continually updating its focus to represent the current state of the energy industry,” said Bruce Carew, event director for the Global Petroleum Show and vice-president of Energy for dmg :: events.

Under the theme of Explore & Develop, GPS brings content addressing current concerns. “The changing energy landscape has created opportunities for us to expand some areas that allow us to service our exhibitors and attendees better,” said Carew. For an industry starving for innovation and ways to be more efficient and cut costs, this is welcomed news.

What’s new at Global Petroleum Show?

The Clean Technology Forum is an example of what is new this year. It will feature companies focused on energy efficiencies, solar, and geothermal. Leaders in carbon capture and storage will also be on hand to discuss the opportunities in the sector.

GPS will also have cutting edge technologies at the new Digital Oil Field Experience. Drone technologies, data collection, mobile devices and software as well as advanced information technology to name a few will be on display.
“(It) will help companies combine business process management with advanced information technology and engineering expertise to streamline and automate the execution of tasks performed by cross-functional teams,” Bruce said.

The Fracking Innovation Zone will feature fracturing fluid blenders, high-horsepower fracturing pumpers, chemical additive units, iron truck and trailers, high-pressure lines, and much more. An outdoor fracking site will also give people “a practical overview and understanding of the fracking process,” said Carew.

In partnership with the Indigenous Center of Energy, GPS is holding the inaugural Indigenous Conference on Energy and Mining. “This event is a forum for Indigenous business and government leaders to connect with oil and gas operators, service company executives and business to continue the dialogue surrounding topics of energy,” Carew said.

GPS will also have an expanded international focus and will be the host of dignitaries from around the world: Bahrain, Bolivia, China, Columbia, Ecuador, India, Mexico, Nigeria, Peru, Poland, South Africa, UAE and USA. “Understanding how to do business in foreign markets, as well as establishing relationships for future endeavours is key,” said Wes Scott, executive Vice president at dmg events. “We are fortunate that many of the international delegations chose GPS as their event of choice in this particular economy, re-iterating Canada as a viable, favourable place to do business.”

To further explore international opportunities, attendees can participate in the International Energy Capital Forum to be held in conjunction with GPS on June 10th.

Get some training at Global Petroleum Show – Free to Attendees

Corporate training and education opportunities have been greatly reduced in recent months. To help people catch up, GPS offers presentations on career development, carbon capture management, heavy oil, health and safety, environment, and enhanced oil recovery, to mention a few, free of charge.

GPS also wants to help those who have lost their jobs in the downturn. “We have a Career Development Zone this year to support the people who are in between jobs or looking to strengthen their personal brand,” Carew said. A series of information sessions will be held to help job seekers optimize their job search, repurpose their skillsets and improve their networking skills.

Another opportunity for those who have decided to start their own company is the Doghouse, a Dragon’s Den style pitch competition. It is back for a third edition. Start-up companies will pitch to thousands of prospective investors and potential customers “who buy every B2B product and service imaginable,” Carew said.

Participation

dmg :: events is expecting more than 50,000 attendees will take advantage of networking and business opportunities at GPS June 7-9.

Registration is free for a limited time at www.globalpetroleumshow.com

“We expect to have 1,500 exhibitors who are going to create business opportunities. There is still room out there for companies to grow,” said Carew.

This will all be happening on half a million square feet of exhibition space at Stampede Park. These are impressive numbers especially given current market conditions.

“The show changes every year, and there is always something new that can be applied to a personal experience and businesses methodology,” Carew concludes.
