Western Canada’s fleet of drilling rigs are still busy but not as busy as the week prior with 276 actively drilling according to data collected by Baker Hughes for the week of March 17th.
Drilling activity is starting to slow down, but still very active in comparison to last year’s count (only 67 active rigs).
Will will see a continued drop in activity due to the upcoming spring breakup. Rigs activity will stay low likely until June, when activity will start to pick up again.
From one week ago, Alberta has seen a slight decrease in activity from 218 to 190 active rigs, Saskatchewan also dropped – current count at 49, down from 59.
Oil drilling dropped to 149 rigs from 180; gas rigs decrease to 125 from 135.
