Looking to buy or sell oilfield inventory? Bolongo is evolving the marketplace

Bolongo is an Alberta-based, oilfield equipment buying and selling service company with a single mission – saving their members’ time and money, while reducing the industry’s environmental impact. A bold mission indeed, but one that the start-up has been successfully accomplishing since forming in 2015.

With over 175 years of combined oil and gas experience, Bolongo’s team understands that material and inventory management is a critical component of any successful oil and gas company. Their solution is Bolongo.ca, an online marketplace for excess pipe and oilfield equipment which combines the user-friendly functionality of online shopping, with personal service backed by a wealth of industry experience.

“In facilitating the sale of excess assets, we have helped our members create cashflow and dispense unneeded material at extremely competitive rates,” says Stewart Worth, Bolongo President & CEO. “On the buy side, we have helped members find high-quality materials at fair market prices with fast delivery times. The cherry on top is our business’ ability to offer a sustainable solution that helps reduce our industry’s environmental impact.”

More than 45,000 tons of existing steel-based inventory was bought, sold, and utilized by Bolongo members in 2017 alone. By taking advantage of existing quality inventory, their members helped save the nearly 80,000 tons of CO2 emissions, 940,000 GJ of energy and more than 2.8 billion liters of water that would have been required to produce the same amount of material new. That equates to the yearly emissions of 19,000 cars, the energy to serve nearly 10,000 homes, and enough water to serve the daily use of more than 11,000,000 Canadians.

The positive impact on members’ bottom line, along with the added benefit of reducing the environmental impact of their businesses, is Bolongo’s driving force. “We’ll continue to save our members’ time and money, avoiding long delivery lead times, and reducing storage, depreciation, and purchasing costs,” adds Mr. Worth. “We have also set the ambitious goal of doubling our members’ positive environmental impact this year, utilizing 100,000 tons of existing steel-based inventory, saving nearly 200,000 tons of CO2 emissions, 2,000,000 GJ of energy and 6 billion liters of water.
