Mountain Valley pipeline protester comes down after 57 days

May 24, 20188:37 AM The Associated Press0 Comments

ROANOKE, Va. – After 57 days and a food blockade orchestrated by law enforcement, the Mountain Valley Pipeline protester known as Nutty has descended from her perch atop a pole in Virginia.

The Roanoke Times reports Nutty left the platform suspended from a 50-foot pole blocking a construction access road in Giles County on Wednesday.

The U.S. Forest Service had prevented supporters from providing her with food and water since early April. She subsisted on energy bars and rainwater in recent weeks, but wrote in a Facebook post that her food supply ran out a few days ago.

Forest Service spokeswoman Stephanie Johnson says Nutty was evaluated at a hospital and served with a citation to appear in federal court.

Three protesters remain along the pipeline’s planned 300-mile route in Virginia and West Virginia.
