OTTAWA – Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer has met with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Scheer’s office says the meeting took place in New Delhi today, as part of the Opposition leader’s trip to India to forge economic links and deepen trade with the country.

Scheer says he told Modi if he ever becomes prime minister he’ll make it easier for Canadian oil and gas to be shipped to India.

He says he wants to make Canada a supplier of safe and secure energy to India.

He says in a statement that a Conservative government would remove roadblocks to pipeline expansion so Canadian oil and gas can reach new markets.

Scheer also held meetings on Sunday with India’s foreign affairs minister, Sushma Swaraj, and the minister of state for housing and urban affairs, Hardeep Singh Puri.
