Canada's heavy crude differential to U.S. futures narrowed slightly on Thursday:
* Western Canada Select (WCS) heavy blend crude for August delivery in Hardisty, Alberta, last traded at $12.60 per barrel below West Texas Intermediate (WTI) oil, according to Net Energy Exchange. On Wednesday, WCS for August delivery settled at $12.95 a barrel below WTI crude futures.
* The government of Alberta, Canada's main crude-producing province, has capped oil production for August at 3.74 million barrels per day, compared with 3.71 million bpd in July.
* Light synthetic crude from the oil sands for August delivery last traded at 75 cents per barrel over U.S. crude, up from Wednesday's settle of 60 cents per barrel over WTI.
* U.S. oil futures fell 54 cents to $56.89 a barrel, weighed down by data showing a smaller-than-expected draw on U.S. crude stockpiles and worries about the global economy. Trade was thin because of the July 4 Independence Day holiday in the United States.
